The Philly Soul is back! And now is “smooth” with Fab Merrett & Spanish Friends!
TSSOP is the project with which Fab Merrett pays homage to Philly Soul, the musical genre born in the 70s in the Philadelphia musical environment around the work of authors and record producers such as Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff and Thom Bell, defining the style of black music for over a decade.
Characterized by funk, R&B and jazz influences, The Sound Of Philadelphia has as its trademark propulsive rhythms and seductive melodies supported by lush string and wind arrangements, powerful vocal performances and never banal lyrics, which at the time launched very “black” social messages ”, often political, subversive messages, for those who wanted to grasp them without stopping only at the surface.
Exploring this musical world Fab Merrett proposes the best songs of Philly Soul with new ideas of smooth, jazz and funky arrangements, while maintaining the color and stylistic features of the rich and sumptuous sound of the music of Gamble & Huff, Thom Bell and the artists of PIR (Philadelpia International Records), played by the talented musicians of the MFSB Orchestra.
